If you like a earthy, leather, Burgundian style Pinot Noir, this is it. Ready to drink now. This wine is a true testament to classic Pinot Noir flavors. The warm and inviting aroma of praline, plum, and berry combine with the essence of sea spray which is characteristic of the fruit’s influence from the Pacific Ocean. It is a beautiful wine that pairs well with food and stands strong on its own.
THE VINEYARD: Maritime is a proprietary name for the very best Pinot Noir from the vintage. The 2011 Maritime Pinot Noir is predominantly from two vineyards located just miles from the Pacific Ocean. This vintage also includes lots of Marimar Estate Vineyard and Saltonstall Vineyard. Combined, the vineyards are planted with Dijon clones 115, 667 and 777.
THE WINEMAKING: The primary processes include cold soaking for 6-8 days in stainless steel followed by fermentation to 14-16 brix then transfer to barrel and fermented to dryness.
THE WINE: 2011 was challenging for the Sonoma Coast region. A wet and cool spring delayed the growing season, summer temperatures remained cool, rarely rising above 90 degrees, and late season storms threatened the harvest. But despite the difficulties in the vineyard, our winemaking team produced a wine that is richly flavored with excellent acidity and wonderful balance.
